About this experience

The Leopold Museum, located in Vienna's Museum Quarter, brings together one of the most important collections of Austrian art from the early 20th century. Its origins lie in the collecting passion of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold, who acquired more than 5,000 works over five decades. The collection, valued at 575 million euros, became a foundation in 1994 and the museum opened to the public in 2001. The museum is particularly noted for its extraordinary Egon Schiele collection - the largest in the world - and for works by Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka and Richard Gerstl. It also houses the permanent exhibition Vienna 1900, focusing on the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk and movements such as the Vienna Secession and the Viennese arts and crafts workshops. Interestingly, many of the objects on display today were used by the Leopold family in their daily lives before becoming museum pieces.
